Pottstown Progress continues with more good news regarding support for infrastructure, parks, accessibility, & recreation improvements. Friday afternoon, October 14, officials gathered on the steps of Borough Hall to commemorate the $265,000 Pottstown received from the Commonwealth Finance Authority (CFA) Board.
This state grant includes:
$140,000 to repair & reroute a collapsed stormwater arch under a commercial building at 1200 High Street.
$125,000 in Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Greenways, Trails, & Recreation Program funding, to renovate Chestnut St. Park & South St. Park, with plans to improve safety, accessibility & stormwater control.
As Senator Bob Mensch shares, “It is great to see bipartisan efforts being made to help cover the significant cost of these vital projects; a new pipe-arch storm sewer [with an expected useful life of 100 years]…these local parks that provide opportunities for recreation, exercise, & social engagement. It reminds us of the common goal of bringing tax dollars back to the district to improve the overall livelihood of our communities.”
State Representative Joe Ciresi shares, “This state funding will improve the quality of life in Pottstown, helping with an Immediate Priority Repair need for Pottstown’s stormwater arch system & making significant improvements to Pottstown’s neighborhood parks. The repairs & improvements from these grants will make Pottstown a better place to live, boost property values, & strengthen the foundation for Pottstown’s ongoing revitalization.”
Borough Manager, Justin Keller shared the impact of these, as well as previous grants. “Investing stormwater infrastructure helps secure the future for coming generations in the face of ever-changing weather patterns…Parks are often the cornerstone of neighborhood desirability & pride, & have become essential places of respite and recreation, especially in a post-pandemic era… As always, the advocacy of Sen. Mensch and Rep. Joe Ciresi were instrumental to ensuring these state funds get put to good use for the betterment of the town, & we thank them for their unwavering support.”
