On May 28, 2015, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the selection of 243 new Brownfields grant investments totaling $54.3 million to 147 communities across the country. Pottstown was among the municipalities selected.
The Montgomery County Redevelopment Authority (MCRDA) received a $400,000 community-wide Brownfields Assessment Grant award to properly inventory, characterize, assess, and conduct reuse and cleanup planning for environmentally-impacted sites within the Borough of Pottstown. The Brownfield Assessment Program will encourage the redevelopment of long idle or underutilized industrial and commercial properties stimulating economic development and improving quality of life for Pottstown residents.
Pottstown Area Industrial Development (PAID) assisted the Montgomery County Redevelopment Authority with the preparation of the successful grant application for the Brownfield Assessment Program. The two economic development organizations will partner on program implementation including community involvement and engagement efforts. Environmental Standards, Inc. serves as the consultant to MCRDA for the program.
