When Chester County based Cigas Machine Shop needed to expand its operations for precision stainless steel and super alloy custom parts, the company chose Pottstown.

In 2007, Cigas Machine Shop took possession of a vacant 73,000 square foot mill structure that had been owned and operated by the Bethlehem Steel Company for much of its life. Portions of the structure dated back to the late 188’s and it was neither heated nor insulated with ceiling heights as high as 65 feet.

An engineer by training, company Owner and President Craig Cigas decided to take on a major renovation utilizing a blend of carefully selected sustainable building materials and green technologies. “While I personally think it’s cool and sustainability is deeply rooted in our corporate culture, renovating buildings really isn’t what we do for a living,” explained Cigas. “Our building in Pottstown is only a tool to help us deliver the best products and services to our customers.” The building’s green features include a new exterior metal skin that rejects summer heat and provides the primary source of heat in the winter, high R-value insulation, high performance skylights, rainwater harvesting, and a photo voltaic array.

Today, Cigas Machine Shop continues to grow in Pottstown making large investments in production equipment allowing the company to offer a wide range of cut plate products for industrial applications and commercial uses.
