State and Local Economic Development Organizations

Economic development is a collaborative effort requiring coordination among many organizations to leverage resources and expertise for the benefit of the community. PAED works very closely with a number of other economic development service providers including:

Anchor Institutions

Pottstown is home to several prominent institutions recognized for innovation and excellence:  Montgomery County Community College, Pottstown Hospital/Tower Health and The Hill School. These “anchor institutions” are among the largest employers in the Borough of Pottstown and continue to grow.

  • Montgomery County Community College’s Pottstown Campus opened in 1996, (as an addition to its Blue Bell campus).  MCCC offers over 100 programs, with 78,000 graduates and an average annual enrollment of approximately 11,000+ students.
  • The Hill School, a private preparatory high school on a 200 acre campus, currently enrolls students from 31 states and 31 countries.
  • Pottstown Hospital Tower Health’s staff features nearly 500 medical staff members, including over 400 Physicians and over 90 Advanced Practice Providers.

PAED, our economic development partners, and the institutions that anchor our community are working together to promote economic development and attract additional investment to Pottstown.

Qualified Opportunity Zones

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which passed at the end of 2017, enabled governors to nominate certain census tracts to be designated as Qualified Opportunity Zones (QOZs). A QOZ is an economically distressed community where new investments, under certain conditions, may be eligible for preferential tax treatment. The tax incentive is designed to spur economic development and job creation in distressed communities by providing these tax benefits to investors. The Borough of Pottstown was approved for three designated QOZs.  Learn more and view the maps here.
