Santa Saturday (Now Santa Sunday!)

This annual event, from the Riverfront to the Downtown in Pottstown has quickly become a favorite tradition for families, businesses, and visitors.

Friday, December 2

The holiday weekend kicks off with Pottstown’s Steel River Playhouse opening performance of “It’s a Wonderful Life”.

It’s a Wonderful Life | December 2nd – December 18th  “George, Mary, Zuzu, and the entire town of Bedford Falls come to life in this staged 1940s live radio broadcast of Frank Capra’s holiday movie classic. With live sound effects and a handful of actors, the story of beleaguered building and loan owner George Bailey and his affable helper angel, Clarence, unfolds one fateful Christmas Eve as you’ve never seen it before. This captivating, life-affirming story is “a perfect gift for the community … memorable theater that will melt your heart.” www.steelriver-playhouse.org

All Month Long – Holiday Planter Competition

Another tradition in Pottstown’s Downtown is the Holiday Planter Competition. This year’s participation is the highest we have seen in several years. The local businesses and organizations “adopt and decorate” a planter.   It has become a unique and meaningful tradition that creates interest for visitors, makes the planters appealing after the downtown Spring/Summer flowers have been cleared away, and gives an opportunity for the organizations and businesses to share their chosen theme. So, while you are “strolling” around downtown, make sure you visit these 40 planters, located on High Street, 100-300 blocks, Hanover Street, and along the PART Bus Terminal, near Smith Family Plaza.  Planters are decorated no later than November 30 at 12noon, judging takes place December 1 and 2, and winners announced at the Tree Lighting on Saturday, December 3, just before the tree is lit. The planters remain decorated, weather pending, throughout the month of December.
