The Borough of Pottstown has approximately 40+ large cement planters, on High and Hanover Streets, as well as in and around the Bus Terminal and Smith Family Plaza. These planters hold beautiful blooming flowers from Spring to Fall, and are maintained by the federally funded Pottstown Area Rapid Transport (PART). Once the cold weather arrives in the Fall, the planters are cleared. The festive Holiday Planter Competition began in 2018 and quickly became a well-loved tradition in the Downtown. Businesses enjoyed the team-building aspect of working together, being creative, and competing with their neighbor businesses and organizations for prizes and bragging rights of Best in Show, Most Festive and Most Creative. Strolling through the downtown to see the planters is a wonderful way to enjoy High Street and the Downtown District. The winners of the three prizes are announced by Pottstown’s Mayor at the Annual Tree Lighting, on the first Saturday in December in Smith Family Plaza.

Wow! Pottstown! So much creativity! So much Holiday Spirit! The beautiful Spring and Summer flowers are gone from these planters for just a few short months. This month your creativity shines!
We have heard from many of you who were planning your themes, gathering your supplies, working together. So many new businesses and organizations eager to participate. We have heard how much your groups have enjoyed this process, brainstorming ideas, using it as a teambuilding activity, and even tackling important topics like preserving nature and the environment. You all have had so much fun with this project. Even the rain and wind didn’t stop you! Way to go Pottstown!  And now… we wait… to see who the winners are! To be announced Sunday evening, December 4, at the Tree Lighting, 6pm, Smith Family Plaza.
